These awards were specially selected by the judges and presented to projects that displayed creative or innovative solutions that represented outcomes that went above and beyond industry expectations. Presenter Manny Gonzalez AIA, LEED AP noted the sustainable site features of the Landis Homes project was a prime example of a project that “pushed the envelope” of sustainability for its thoughtful integration of rain gardens, bioswales, rain barrels and floodplain restoration in managing water resources.

Landis Homes, a continuing care retirement community nestled within the pastoral landscapes and preserved farmlands of Lancaster County, recently embarked on its South Campus Expansion which focused on the undeveloped 39-acre portion of their 114-acre property. As stewards of their surroundings, Landis Homes believes that environmentally sensitive areas must be maintained, protected, and conserved while accommodating the modest growth necessary to remain competitive in the marketplace. These values have proven to be influential in the design and development of the remaining campus area.

The NAHB 50+ Housing Council’s Best of 50+ Housing Awards program is the industry’s most prestigious national awards program honoring excellence in building, design and marketing of housing for boomers and beyond. The Best of 50+ Housing Awards are viewed by the industry and media as a showcase for innovation, emerging trends and quality housing for the mature demographic. Award recipients were selected by a jury panel comprised of industry professionals who specialize in the areas of active adult, services-enriched, marketing and lifestyle for the 50+ housing industry.
