A former machine shop which was vacant for nearly a decade will soon become home to The Palate Company, an eclectic urban coffee roasting and catering facility. TONO Architects and its sister company, PROTO Construction, have contracted with RGS to provide landscape architecture and site engineering services.
RGS has designed the site reflecting the adaptive reuse philosophy. Portions of former building walls will surround a new motor court paved in porous asphalt and designed to mitigate storm water run-off. Salvaged concrete and masonry materials were crushed for reuse within subsurface infiltration beds and foundation substrate. Copper, steel, CMU, brick and wood materials from the site are being scrapped or recycled to minimize the project’s carbon footprint and landfill impact.
