The Community Action Program of Lancaster County (CAP) champions the achievement of long-term self-sufficiency for individuals and families through services and advocacy targeting the elimination of poverty. It is especially committed to improving the developmental outcomes of young children and improving the health and well-being of our neighbors. Research indicates that outdoor learning improves academic performance, nutrition, social relations, self-discipline, creative problem solving skills and even eyesight.
Recently, CAP engaged the creative services of RGS to design their vision of ‘Nature’s Classroom’, an outdoor learning environment that will consist of an edible garden, mounded land-form/slide, gazebo, native shrub & perennial plantings, and movable elements such as tables and easels.
Our firm worked within a very limited project budget to better connect our community’s youth with their natural environment in a fun, durable, and educational outdoor classroom.
